I work with people who have spent a long time feeling out of place—often in ways that aren’t obvious from the outside. You may function well, even excel in certain areas, but underneath there’s a persistent sense of disconnection: from yourself, from other people, or from a more vital, enlivened self. You may have learned to adapt—by masking parts of yourself, overthinking, staying in control, or avoiding situations that feel too exposing. These patterns are adaptations to trauma but they come at a cost: a quiet erosion of self-esteem, difficulty with intimacy, or a sense that something important is missing.
