I work with children who struggle with behavioral and emotional challenges. They are complex, intense, passionate, independent, curious, and creative. They can be easily impacted by their environment. One minute they are laughing, the next they are screaming. They experience reduced filtering and advanced processing of information, which causes them to have a hypervigilant stress response system. I refer to these children as non-formulaic because they are unlike typical children. Thus, they require a parenting approach tailored to their unique personality, as traditional approaches often cause their challenges to escalate.
