Working in a high-stress career field can lead to feelings of burnout, apathy, and symptoms of vicarious trauma. A high-stress environment often misleads a person into thinking, "I am okay, and I can handle more." These work environments and career fields can leave one feeling isolated and unable to share or relate to those in their inner circles outside of work. Finding the balance to work and outside life is key to the health of any staff in the field. Many are called to help others, but we need our self-care, also. I am a trauma-informed care specialist.
